Wegovy Injection

Medication Features

Mounjaro is a prescription-only weight loss injection in the UK, supplied as a pen containing 4 doses. It is prescribed to support weight management in adults where excess weight may affect long-term health. Mounjaro works by reducing appetite and helping you feel fuller between meals. It is fully licensed and approved for weight loss in the UK. Treatment begins only after a medical assessment confirms suitability. It works alongside lifestyle changes rather than replacing them and is intended for steady, clinically supervised progress rather than rapid results. Simply fill in a free consultation form. Our clinical team will review your details and prescribe a suitable treatment. Home delivery is discreet, and essential supplies such as needles or sharps bins can be arranged during the assessment process if needed.

Wegovy is exclusively offered as an injectable treatment. While oral GLP-1 medications are available, they are not currently part of our service offerings. However, a new oral GLP-1 treatment is being developed, with manufacturers aiming for approval by 2026.
If you are switching from Ozempic used for weight loss, the same guidance applies:
  • If you are currently on Ozempic: You may switch to the same or next higher dose of Wegovy.
  • If you had a short break in treatment: You may continue from your previous dose level.
  • If you had a longer treatment gap: Restarting at 0.5mg Wegovy is safer and helps reduce side effects.
If Ozempic is being used for type 2 diabetes, you should not switch to Wegovy. Switching from Saxenda to Wegovy (summary guidance)
  • Saxenda 3.0mg daily → Wegovy 0.5mg weekly
  • Lower Saxenda dose → Wegovy 0.25mg
  • Long gap after Saxenda → Wegovy 0.25mg
Dose increases should follow manufacturer guidance and clinical advice.
Semaglutide is the active ingredient contained in Wegovy. It is a branded form of semaglutide that is specifically licensed for weight management. Other medicines, such as Ozempic and Rybelsus, also contain semaglutide but are licensed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes rather than weight loss.
If you are currently using Ozempic or have used it previously for weight loss, the following guidance applies:
  • If you are currently taking Ozempic: You may switch to the equivalent dose of Wegovy or the next dose level. For example, if you are on 1.0mg Ozempic, you may move to 1.7mg Wegovy.
  • If you have had a short treatment gap of a few weeks: You may continue Wegovy at the dose you previously reached.
  • If you were previously taking Ozempic 1.0mg and had a longer break: Restarting Wegovy at 0.5mg is recommended to reduce the risk of side effects such as nausea.
  • If Ozempic is prescribed for type 2 diabetes: You should continue using Ozempic and not switch to Wegovy. Wegovy is not licensed for diabetes management.
If you are currently using Saxenda or have used it previously, the following guidance applies:
  • If you are taking Saxenda 3.0mg once daily: You may switch to Wegovy 0.5mg once weekly. Although both medicines belong to the GLP-1 class, they contain different active ingredients. Starting at 0.5mg helps reduce the risk of side effects. After four weeks, the dose may be increased gradually in line with prescribing guidance.
  • If you are taking a lower dose than 3.0mg of Saxenda: You should start Wegovy at 0.25mg.
  • If you previously used Saxenda but had a long break in treatment: Restarting at 0.25mg Wegovy is advised to improve tolerability.
Using other weight loss medications alongside Wegovy is not recommended. The safety of combining these treatments has not been established, and doing so may increase the risk of side effects. In particular, you should not take any other medicines containing GLP-1 receptor agonists while using Wegovy, even if they are prescribed for diabetes.
There are no over-the-counter versions of Wegovy available in the UK. While some non-prescription products claim to support weight loss, none offer the same mechanism of action or clinical evidence as Wegovy. Prescription assessment is required to ensure suitability and safety.
Wegovy and Ozempic both contain semaglutide, but they are prescribed for different purposes. It is approved for weight loss, while Ozempic is used to manage type 2 diabetes. Although they share the same active ingredient, their dosing differs to suit these distinct uses. Wegovy medication primarily supports appetite control, whereas Ozempic focuses on blood sugar regulation in people with diabetes. The maximum Ozempic dose is 2mg, used only when lower doses do not adequately control blood glucose.
Plateaus can occur as the body adapts to changes. Adjustments to treatment, diet, or activity levels may help restart progress.
Yes. Mental health support is available for those who need help managing emotional or behavioural challenges related to weight loss.
The Wegovy injection cost on the prescribed dose. Full Wegovy price information is provided during consultation so you can make an informed decision.
Do not use Wegovy while breastfeeding. It is unclear whether the medication passes into breast milk, so treatment should be avoided during this period. For a complete description of any Wegovy side effects and restrictions, please make sure to read the Patient Information Leaflet.
No. Both contain semaglutide, but Wegovy is licensed for weight loss, while Rybelsus is prescribed for type 2 diabetes. They differ in purpose, dosing, and formulation.
Achieving a healthier weight can reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers. Clinical studies also show improvements in blood pressure, cholesterol, and inflammation markers.
No. Wegovy is only available with a prescription in the UK following assessment by a licensed clinician.
